Water Me Next Week: A Succulent’s Plea by Theresa Ebro (a review)

I recently decided to try my hand at creating a Succulent/Cactus Fairy Garden in a container.  Because I’m a “need to know as much as I can before I start a new project” type of person, I’ve been checking out books on various types of succulents.

Not all books are worth the time to read let alone purchase, so anything you see here are books that I have or soon will purchase for my own permanent resource library.

Water Me Next Week: A Succulent’s Plea is a book that I loved leafing through and devoured in reading all the tips, hints, and plant care information.  I think that this information will help me keep cactus and succulents alive in my home (which has never been easy as I tend to water too much).

Normally, I’d put the book cover blurb right here but for this book that blurb is very long, so read more about Water Me Next Week: A Succulent’s Plea by hitting the ‘continue reading’ link below.

(also, the cover picture and the light blue links will take you to Amazon where you could purchase this title if you wish) I’m also fairly certain you could find this at your local library.

Terrarium Fairy Garden Possibilities

Posted August 24, 2020 by Fae Serena in Faery Garden, Fairy Garden Ideas, Terrarium Gardening / 0 Comments

I have been fascinated by terrariums my entire life.  A miniature world in a jar or bottle or fish tank just seems the most relaxing thing to observe (if you cannot actually get out into nature physically to do so.)

I came across this article at GardenersPath.com recently that jump-started the possibility around “I wonder if I could do this” thoughts racing through my head.  (in fact, the picture up there is from that article)

Any glass container would equal a terrarium.  Size does not matter as long as the plants within can grow and thrive in that space and environment.

I will definitely be looking into this idea.  If this interests you as well, then a good place to start would be clicking on the link to Gardeners Path’s article above.  I’ll be adding more information in the coming weeks about terrarium gardening so I’ll wish us both luck. 🙂

Essential Succulents: The Beginner’s Guide (a review)

Posted August 14, 2020 by Fae Serena in Book Review, Fairy Garden Ideas, Succulent Gardening / 0 Comments

I went searching for a plant guide to succulents for a Fairy Garden I’m planning.  And, honestly, I didn’t want to spend a lot of money (yet) before knowing if I was actually going to do this.

I found “Essential Succulents: The Beginner’s Guide” on Amazon, discovered in addition it was available through Kindle Unlimited (which I have since I’m such a romance novel addicted soul) …and decided to give it a try.

I found it to be an invaluable source of information – and I took tons of notes for when I actually begin creating my own succulent Fairy Gardens.  In fact, I’ll go back and purchase it at that time in order to write my own notes on the pages.

Because the book is in the Kindle Unlimited subscription program, you’ll only find this one (on-line) at Amazon and I’ve provided affiliate links in this post and on the book cover picture should you want to check it out for yourself.  (You can most likely also find this in any physical book store, so the choice is yours)

Succulents In A Fairy Garden

Posted August 4, 2020 by Fae Serena in Faery Garden, Fairy Garden Ideas, Succulent Gardening / 0 Comments

I love plants, for years I could keep African Violets blooming year-round.  Sadly, we moved from that “perfect” location and I’ve not had the same success since.  *sigh*   Oh.  Well.

I’ve one spot that gets natural sunlight enough to have a glass “bookcase” double as a large plant stand.  And that is my one spot that is filled right now with the majority of my leafy plants.

I’m beginning to plot out how to use plant lights in order to create other plant locations within my home… I’m determined to go green big time.

Right now, I’m looking at cactus and succulents… and I’m frankly, astounded by the variety that is available.  Beautiful in a unique fashion, nothing like pretty flowering African Violets but still stunning in their own right.

With plant lights and the right location away from drafty doors, I believe I can accomplish at least one type of Fairy Garden with only succulents… at least, I’m now determined to try.  I could never recreate these lovely pictures that I found on Pinterest (when I find the originator they will be properly linked) — but they give me hope that I can do something close.

Now, to find the right plants, pot, and fairy decorations.  🙂

Fairy Garden Fasination

Posted July 4, 2020 by Fae Serena in Faery Garden, Fairy Garden Ideas / 0 Comments

I have long, long held a fascination for Fairy Gardens whether they be huge elaborate creations or a simple broken pot reused that is now full of imagination.

I’ve always lived in apartments where there is no room whatsoever for an elaborate set-up to be devoted to such a project.  Yet, I now live in a house (rented) where I could make a fairy garden (or tons) as indoor projects.

So, now I’m searching out ideas that I could put into practical use… it has to be practical for I’d never leave these beauties behind so they must be small enough to be moveable should that need arise.

During a year that has held more than its fair share of stress, tension, and uncertainty this new hobby may be a way to channel those chaotic thoughts and fears into something relaxing and therapeutic in the end.

Settling Into A New Home… Faery Style

Posted June 4, 2020 by Fae Serena in Faery Thoughts, Rambling Thoughts / 0 Comments

I’ve long had a love affair with the Fae, the Faries, the Faery… it matters not how you spell the word the thought associated with it is … magical, elusive, mischievous, believable make-believe.

I’m also old enough now to know that my fascination with a Faery World is truly my imagination at work, those “what if” moments that we all have no matter our age.

In truth, my Faery world is often a place of escape – where I can slip the human bonds of the body and simply let my imagination run free — like back in my youth when anything was possible and just over the next ridge on the horizon was the greatest adventure of all time.  We all know the truth about that, but reality sucks at times and I make the choice to allow my childhood imagination off the leash at times and simply enjoy life and the moment.
